News: Beach Reporter Business Spotlight

By Eric Michael Stitt
April 23, 2008

Seven years ago, Julie Eltman started Creative Nutrition and since then she has been educating area residents on the benefits of natural supplements and better eating habits to help improve their overall health.

The Redondo Beach-based business provides “cutting-edge nutrition” to people, Eltman said.

Eltman, a registered dietitian with a master’s in public health, said most people are misinformed on what sound nutrition is. She said people are getting a quarter of the nutrients they used to 30 years ago. So she educates people on how to better their nutrition and offers supplements that make up the rest of the nutrients the person is not getting on a daily basis. This improves a person’s mood, energy and overall health, she said.

“We do a great job of helping people,” she said.

Most people are lacking quality nutrition, but by using Creative Nutrition’s products, she said, the client’s health drastically improves.

“We treat the deficiency and clear the toxicities and they get well fast,” Eltman said, adding that within two weeks, her customers feel completely different.

Catherine Chepenik attended a Creative Nutrition lecture almost two years ago and ever since she has been an avid user of the business’s products.

“I was overwhelmed with the information,” Chepenik said. “I knew there were alternative ways, I just really hadn’t gotten the information from anyone else.”

She first took a “liquid vitamin B-12” and instantly noticed an improvement in her energy and mood.

“The first supplement, that hit the nail on the head for me,” Chepenik said.

Although she ate rather healthy, Chepenik attended another lecture, consulted with one of the registered dietitians, learned how to cook better and gained even more knowledge about nutrition.

“Now I’m more nutritionally sound than I’ve ever been,” Chepenik said.
Creative Nutrition also has products that help treat anything from stress to digestive issues, Eltman said.

“For every medicine, there is a remedy or natural supplement with no negative side effects,” she said, adding that herbal supplements are an alternative to medicines.

Eltman hopes that through her lectures and people stopping by Creative Nutrition, everyone will learn more about the benefits of natural supplements.

“We can help so many people,” she said.

Creative Nutrition is also working with area preschools to educate children and their parents about eating healthy. She said a lot of parents don’t take the extra time to pack healthy meals for their children. So by educating the children, the parents will constantly be reminded to make healthy lunches. Eltman said the children are very receptive to the information she provides. One mother told Eltman that her 3-year-old daughter now asks, “Is that organic?” when she’s making her lunch.

“They get it,” Eltman said.

She said if children become aware of the benefits of eating better now, then they won’t have the health difficulties later in life that some adults do now because they don’t know any better.

Eltman will be holding a lecture at Montessori Preschool in Manhattan Beach at 6:30 p.m. on May 28 for anyone who wants to learn more about nutrition. The lecture is called “Strategies for getting your family to eat healthy.”

Eltman, an author of a few nutrition books, said becoming educated about nutrition is the first step to improving one’s health.

“You are what you eat,” she said.

After people understand that, they become very active in wanting to maintain a high level of health through eating right and using natural supplements.
